What is Tin Bronze?

Tin bronze is an alloy composed of copper and tin. This alloy is usually a material in which copper forms the majority, but tin is added in a certain proportion to improve the properties of the alloy. Among the properties of tin bronze can be found the following:

Mechanical Durability: Tin bronze provides high mechanical durability by adding the excellent strength properties of tin to the inherent durability of copper.

Corrosion Resistance: Tin has a property that increases resistance to corrosion. For this reason, tin bronze can be preferred, especially in applications exposed to corrosion factors such as seawater.

Good Machinability: Tin bronze has good machinability for casting, forming and machining operations. This facilitates its use in a variety of applications.

Low Coefficient of Friction: Tin bronze has a low coefficient of friction, making it suitable for plain bearings, sliders and other friction sensitive applications.

Tin Bronze Usage Areas:

Marine Industry: Tin bronze is widely used in shipbuilding and marine applications due to its resistance to seawater and corrosion resistance. It is an ideal material for parts exposed to myrtle and other corrosion agents.

Electrical and Electronic Connectors: The good conductive properties of tin bronze make it particularly suitable for the manufacture of electrical connectors and contact surfaces.

Friction Parts: Due to its low coefficient of friction, tin bronze is preferred for the production of friction parts. This includes plain bearings, gears and other mechanical parts.

Machine Parts: Tin bronze is used in the production of various machine parts thanks to its strength and machinability. Parts such as bearings, gears, nuts can be produced using this alloy.

Art and Sculpture: Tin bronze's aesthetic appearance and easy workability make it suitable for the production of works of art and sculptures.

Vehicle Parts: Tin bronze can be used to manufacture some parts in the automotive industry. These parts can include engine parts, gears and brake components.
